Summer can feel like a balancing act when the kids are home. The routines are different, the house is fuller, and if you're working from home, running a business, or simply trying to keep up with everyday life, things can quickly start to feel overwhelming.
Over the years, I've learned that peace in our homes doesn't come from having perfect children, spotless rooms, or a color-coded schedule. It comes from creating simple rhythms that help everyone know what is expected and how they can contribute.
This summer, we're keeping it simple. My kids are responsible for things like keeping their rooms reasonably clean, picking up after themselves, spending time reading, helping with one household responsibility, and contributing to the family in age-appropriate ways. My older two will also spend a little time each week helping with my business.
One of the biggest lessons I've learned as a mom and small business owner is that clear expectations create calm. When everyone knows the boundaries, the responsibilities, and the daily rhythm, there is less frustration and more peace.
